Due to heightened awareness and concern for COVID-19, there will be no direct in-person processing of any Town Clerk services until further notice.
However, forms for various Town Clerk services will be available at the Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion at Hempstead Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 18th, 19th and 20th.

Welcome to the online Town Clerk's office. This office provides many different licenses, certificates and permits to the residents of the Town of Hempstead. In addition, the Town Clerk has served as the official "Keeper of the Record" for the Town since the mid-1600s and continues to be the conduit between our residents and the Town Board.
You are invited to explore our online services. Our goal is to make the Town Clerk's office even more accessible to our residents. You are also invited to visit our office, located on the first floor of Hempstead Town Hall, One Washington Street in the Village of Hempstead. There you will find courteous staff ready to assist you to obtain the services that you require. Additionally, you are encouraged to tour our Archives, which contain so much of the rich and varied history of the Town. We also have many unique, fully restored maps on display for your viewing pleasure, as well as for genealogical research.

The Town Clerk's Office maintains Town Board records and publishes notices of public hearings. It records town ordinances, local laws, personnel actions, petitions, proof of publication, annual budgets, assessment rolls, fiscal reports, notice of liens, subpoena and court actions, bond and note registers, zoning ordinances and maps. As town registrar, the office keeps birth and death records, issues birth, death and fetal certificates, burial permits, conducts genealogical searches, and issues marriage licenses and various permits. Additionally, the Town Clerk's office performs wedding ceremonies. The office processes applications for rezoning, public garages, modification of restrictive covenants, gasoline storage tanks, and GSS ordinances. The clerk is also the custodian of town records dating back to 1644 and maintains an inactive records center and historical archive.
