Depression, loneliness, grief and other personal crises can be overwhelming, but there is help. In partnership with the Town of Hempstead, the Long Island Crisis Center offers senior citizens short-term counseling, support, and resources. The Senior Connection Helpline is available to senior citizens 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

NICE Bus- Nassau Inter County Express

Seniors, age 65 or over, are entitled to ride NICE Bus at a discounted fare. Simply present identification indicating your age.

Long Island Railroad (LIRR)

Individuals age 65 and over may ride for half-fare at any time, except during morning rush hour (6 am - 10 am weekdays). Simply present Medicare card for identification.

New York City Subway/Buses

Long Island senior residents are eligible to ride New York City buses and subways for half-fare by presenting a valid Medicare card. These discounts are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Town of Hempstead Parks & Recreation

Town of Hempstead Senior Citizens, age 60 or over are eligible for a reduction on all registration fees at Town pools, ice skating rinks, and golf courses, except Lido Golf Club.1

Senior Citizens Leisure Pass

Nassau County Senior Citizens age 60 or over, may use this pass to receive reductions at County park facilities, golf courses, pools and ice skating rinks. Applications must be made in person at county parks.

Show drivers license at toll gate. All seniors, age 62 or over, enjoy New York State parks for free on weekdays.

America The Beautiful National Parks & Federal Recreational Lands Pass

A $10.00 lifetime pass that provides access to more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by five Federal agencies, with up to 100% of the proceeds being used to improve and enhance visitor recreation services. The federally-issued card entitles U.S. Senior Citizens, age 62 and over, to free entrance to any national park. Also entitles holder to a 50% discount on any camping fees at federally administered areas.
