The Easiest Way to Get Your Passport!
All persons, including newborn infants, are required to obtain passports in their own names for travel to all foreign countries.
In an effort to strengthen border security, the United States Departments of Homeland Security and State implemented the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) for AIR TRAVEL on January 23, 2007. Currently, all U.S. citizens, including children, are required to present a valid passport or other approved travel document when departing from or entering the United States from within the Western Hemisphere AT AIR PORTS of entry. U.S. citizens can present a valid passport, NEXUS card at airports with NEXUS kiosks, U.S. military ID with travel orders, or a U.S. Merchant Mariner Document when on official business.
As of June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens entering the United States AT SEA OR LAND PORTS of entry are required to have documents that comply with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), most commonly a valid U.S. passport, a passport card, a trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST, or an enhanced driver's license.
The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory.

Prior to coming to Town Hall for your passport appointment, please download the appropriate application from the following link: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/forms.html At the time of your appointment, you must bring acceptable proof of United States Citizenship (i.e., a previous passport and certified birth certificate) and proof of identity (i.e., a previous passport and a driver's license) with you. Anyone who is applying for a new passport must appear in person. (Please note: No cross outs or white out are allowed on any application.)
For your convenience, we can take your required passport photo (one, 2 X 2-inch color photograph taken within the past six months, showing current appearance, full face, front view with a plain white or off-white background). A fee of $10 per person applies.
Your completed application will be processed and forwarded to Passport Services on the same day that you apply. Passport processing times have increased due to high volume. Currently, you can expect your passport to arrive within four to six weeks via priority mail. Expedited service (two to three weeks) is available from the United States Department of State for an additional fee. Passport Cards are sent via first class mail. The status of your passport application should be available online 7 to 10 days after applying at the U.S. Department of State.
We collect passport fees, which are set according to federal guidelines. Processing fees vary depending on the type of passport and age of the applicant. Accepted forms of payment include personal checks and money orders. Personal checks from out of state are acceptable, as long as they are written in English and from a domestic bank. Cash, credit or debit cards and starter/counter checks are not accepted. View the current passport fees.
Now extended through June 30, 2019, the Hempstead Town Clerk's Office is waiving town fees for replacement Passports lost in Superstorm Sandy. Residents must show a FEMA claim or homeowner's/flood insurance claim in order to take advantage of the fee waiver.
For each individual passport application, you must have a separate check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State for Passport, Expedite and Overnight Return fees. Execution, Photo, Certified Mail and Overnight Mail fees can be paid by cash, check or money order payable to Kate Murray, Town Clerk. Please DO NOT prefill check amounts in advance as fees may vary with individual situations.
Mobile Town Hall
Hempstead Town is bringing its passport services to a new level, offering its mobile passport facility right to your town. Groups, teams, and clubs who are traveling abroad can call the Town Clerk at 812-3046 to arrange for "Speedy Pass" Mobile Passport Service at their location.
