Peddling & Soliciting Permit
All applicants must be fingerprinted for a criminal background check. There is $55.00 town fee. The licensing of peddlers and peddler vehicles offers the public a measure of protection from unlicensed and unscrupulous vendors. Peddlers must supply the Town of Hempstead with a New York State Sales Tax Certificate as well as proof of Worker's Compensation Insurance.
If a home or business has a No Soliciting or Do Not Knock sign on their property, peddling is prohibited.
The Nassau County Police Department enforces the licensing rules.
All peddler vehicles must be licensed. A copy of a Nassau County Board of Health Certificate and vehicle registration must be provided. The fee for the vehicle license ranges between $ 25.00 and $ 100.00, depending upon the weight of the vehicle.
Please contact the Nassau County Health Department at (516) 227-9697 to make an appointment to get the vehicle inspected. The NC Health Department is located at 200 County Seat Drive, Mineola, NY 11501
