Since the colonial period, the DeMott family lived in the Town of Hempstead. The DeMott name was eventually shortened to Mott.

The tombstones formerly located on this 38 feet by 61 feet site were removed in the early 20th century. Family members interred in the cemetery include Henry H. Mott, his wife Mary, Letty Ann Mott, Elkanah Mott, and Abigail Mott.

The cemetery was declared a Town of Hempstead landmark in 2005; the town presently holds title to the site.
