Offer Convenient Weekend Dates for Residents to Apply for Travel Documents
As members of the public across the Town of Hempstead and the country continue to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus at breakneck speed, a return to pre-pandemic normalcy is fast approaching. The increased rate of vaccination has spurred the relaxing of many restrictions previously imposed to slow the spread of the virus, and provided many residents of America’s largest township with a renewed interest in resuming safe international travel. To help neighbors get back out into the world, Supervisor Don Clavin and Town Clerk Kate Murray pioneered multiple “Passport Day in Hempstead Town” events on weekends that allowed township residents to apply for passports at convenient times outside of normal business hours.
Due to an outpouring of interest by township residents at the first two Passport Day events, Supervisor Clavin and Town Clerk Murray announced an expansion of the program with new Passport Days scheduled for Saturday, July 10th, and Sunday, August 15th. Town of Hempstead residents can schedule passport application appointments between 9 AM and 3:30 PM on those two convenient weekend dates. The Passport Day events will be taking place in the Passport Application Section of the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion at Hempstead Town Hall, located at 1 Washington Street, Hempstead, NY 11550.
“The COVID-19 pandemic greatly impacted travel – both domestic and international – and forced many to sideline plans they had for long-awaited trips to visit family members, conduct business, or go sight-see in far-flung locales,” said Supervisor Clavin. “With the successful rollout of the vaccine here in Hempstead Town, across the United States, and many other countries, international travel is once again on the table and this Passport Day service provides an opportunity for residents to acquire the needed documents to once again go explore the world.”
Throughout the pandemic, Town Clerk Murray and her team provided convenient, safe options for residents, including curbside marriage licenses, Zoom and Facetime weddings, socially distanced wedding ceremonies, and an outdoor kiosk for licensing, vital records, and other Town Clerk services.
“The Office of the Town Clerk has remained at the forefront of providing essential services to residents throughout the pandemic, and I am elated at the continuous showing of support by members of the public for the varied programs we offer,” said Town Clerk Murray. “The Passport Day events have been a resounding success, and I am pleased to work with Supervisor Don Clavin to expand this service, and get our neighbors traveling safely again.”
