Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin has announced the town’s Child Car Seat Safety Program’s summer community inspection schedule. The town’s team of certified child passenger safety technicians will be holding weekly community inspection events across the township during the months of June, July, August and September.

“Maintaining the safety of our community’s children while traveling is of incredible importance, and this Car Seat Safety Inspection program series is a great opportunity for parents to ensure their children are protected while in their vehicles,” said Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin.  “The Town of Hempstead will be bringing our Car Seat Safety Inspection program to all corners of the township, and I strongly encourage parents of young children who utilize car seats to avail themselves of this complimentary service.”

State law requires that all children under the age of 8 must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system when riding in a motor vehicle. Technicians will check to be sure that car and booster seats are properly positioned and correctly installed in vehicles in order to provide the best protection for youngsters. Hempstead Town’s certified child passenger safety technicians have received rigorous training and are certified by Safe Kids Worldwide.

When registering for the program, guardians will be asked to provide the child’s age, weight, height and model of current car seat in use. Technicians can recommend appropriate car seats, and will check for notices of recalls or possible defects for the current model being used.

“The Town of Hempstead will continue to do everything in our power to safeguard the lives of our youngest neighbors, and that includes working to educate parents on the best processes for installing car seats,” said Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby.

“The town’s Car Seat Safety Inspection Program is a vital resource provided by America’s largest township to help protect our youth,” said Councilman Anthony D’Esposito.  “Anything we can do to protect our community’s kids from being injured in traffic incidents is a positive thing, and we will continue working here at the municipal level to safeguard all our residents in any way we can.”

“The benefits of a car seat are greatly diminished if it is not installed properly, which is why I am proud that the Town of Hempstead is offering this excellent Car Seat Safety Inspection program to residents,” said Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr.

“Maximizing the value of car seats is important in order to protect children who may be using them in the event of a motor vehicle accident,” said Councilman Thomas Muscarella.  “Having a trained professional demonstrate the proper usage of car seats will go a long way towards protecting a lot of children.”

“As a retired police officer, I have seen firsthand the aftermath of horrendous motor vehicle accidents, which is why I am so supportive of the Town of Hempstead offering this Car Seat Safety Inspection program,” said Councilman Christopher Carini.  “It is our duty as a society to protect our kids.”

“Empowering parents and guardians to be able to safely protect their children while traveling is important, which is why the Town of Hempstead’s Car Seat Safety Inspection program is a must for parents of young kids,” said Councilwoman Missy Miller.  “I encourage all with young kids in their care to partake in this educational event, and utilize the newfound knowledge to protect their littlest family members.”
