Open dawn to dusk year-round. Hofstra University campus has been officially designated a National Arboretum. The Arboretum features 240 acres with more than 12,000 evergreen and deciduous trees representing 625 species and varieties. Specialized gardens include a sensory garden for the physically challenged (Sensory Gardens), and the New American Garden of easy-care perennials and ornamental grasses on its North Campus.

A museum of natural history, Tackapausha Museum directs its attention to the living things in our environment, featuring the animals and plants of Long Island. Over 100 live animals housed in the museum. The 84-acre preserve replete with streams, ponds and 5 miles of unpaved Greenbelt hiking trails is a wildlife sanctuary devoted to nature, recreation and education. It is one of the last Atlantic White Cedar swamps in Nassau County. Handicap-accessible.
